1-210 Bridge Impact Study open house

A public open house meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30th from 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to review the findings of I-210 Traffic Impact Study.

The meeting is sponsored by the Imperial Calcasieu Regional Planning and Development Commission (IMCAL) and will be held at the SEED Center, 4310 Ryan Street in Lake Charles in the Willis Noland Conference Center Room on the second floor.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin re-decking the bridge later this year and the study was conducted to determine the impact on local traffic and recommend improvements to help manage congestion.

DOTD plans to close two lanes of traffic for approximately 24 months throughout the anticipated 36-month project period. Freight traffic will not be allowed to cross the bridge during the construction, and there may be increased traffic on the I-10 Bridge for trucks and emergency personnel.

The study looked at new construction and expansion at area petrochemical facilities and the impact to surface streets, considering possible delays in access for first responders to emergency incidents on the bridge and across the river.

To recommend improvements that will help manage traffic flow during construction, the study determined the areas that may be impacted by this project, anticipated increase in traffic on the existing street network and possible surface roadway alternatives.

In 2017, IMCAL held a series of stakeholder briefings as part of the study to gather input from Calcasieu Parish administrators, major employers, local elected officials, emergency responders and freight and industry representatives.

The public is invited to stop by the open house meeting on January 30th to view displays on the study results, talk with IMCAL and project team representatives and provide additional input. The study was conducted for IMCAL by the engineering and planning firm Neel-Schaffer, Inc.
