Calcasieu residents say litter and disaster recovery are slightly improving based on results from the 2023 Citizen Survey released at the March 7 Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Ways and Means Committee Meeting. Jurors received a presentation of the survey results from Management Consultant Dr. Robyn Stiles with Emergent Method, who performed the survey on behalf of the CPPJ.
The anonymous, voluntary survey, conducted in December 2023, will be utilized by the Police Jury and staff to determine ongoing strategic priorities within CPPJ’s Strategic Planning efforts. A total of 1,396 surveys were submitted.
“The Police Jury benefits greatly from our annual Citizen Survey, said Parish Administrator Bryan Beam. “I am very pleased that nearly 1,400 residents responded, the highest number we’ve ever received, which indicates that the public is engaged with our ongoing projects, programs, and policies. The Police Jury will use the data to update our Strategic Plan during 2024.”
Highlights of the survey results include:
- Addressing litter and disaster recovery were the most improved priority service areas according to the survey. Each area received a 2.2 score on a three-point scale.
- More than 49% of respondents were likely or very likely to recommend Calcasieu Parish as a place to live, up more than 8% from the 2022 survey.
- Citizens desire a continued focus on improving drainage, including efficient maintenance of ditches and drainage laterals as well as drainage planning, especially regarding new developments.

The CPPJ plans to conduct similar surveys annually to gather citizen input and to track public perception on Police Jury services.
