Youth Summit

The American Job Center will host its 11th annual Youth Summit/Job Fair from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Lake Charles Civic Center, 900 Lakeshore Drive, Lake Charles.

The event hopes to connect the area’s at-risk young people, ages 16-24, with employers, resources, and post-secondary education/training to help them prepare for and obtain gainful employment.

Young people who attend can participate in several workshops on topics such as youth programs, work readiness and high-demand occupations in Southwest Louisiana.

Many local employers will be on-hand to interview and accept applications for full-time, part-time, and summer employment. Representatives from McNeese State University, SOWELA Technical Community College, ABC, and other local schools will be present to answer questions concerning specific curricula that will qualify them for jobs in high-demand occupations.

Those who plan to attend should come dressed for interviews and they should bring copies of their resumes, as well as smiles and positive attitudes.

Employers interested in taking part in the event are asked to call Kendrick Celestine, 337-721-4010, ext. 5004, or Gwen Guillory, 337-721-4010, ext. 5009, for information or to register.

For more information or to register, call Kendrick Celestine 337-721-4010, ext. 5004.

The Youth Program is sponsored by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, American Job Center Network, Workforce Development Board (WDB), in conjunction with the Louisiana Workforce Commission and funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
