The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Medical Reserve Corps is hosting a free Community Family Safety Expo from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Burton Coliseum Complex, 7001 Gulf Highway, Lake Charles.
During the summer, many residents will be traveling, spending more time outdoors and taking part in recreational activities. Staying safe is a must.
“We put this event together with one goal in mind – to keep families safe. All the partners who participate will offer services and information to help us achieve that goal,” said Angela Jouett, Medical Reserve Corps Manager.
Many local and state safety agencies will be on hand at the event, including the Calcasieu Coroner’s Office, the Lake Charles and Sulphur fire departments, Louisiana State Police Troop D, True Blue Water Sports and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. They will offer information on water and fire safety, safe sleep, crash safety, the DARE Program,S and bleeding control education.
Other sponsors that will provide safety information include the Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, C.A.S.A (Court Appointed Special Advocates), 911, Red Cross, Office of Public Health, Acadian Ambulance, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital’s Training Center, Southwest Louisiana Center for Health Services, the City of Lake Charles, Dr. Antonio Rivera (Life by Design Chiropractic), Damsels in Distress, and local hospitals.
SOWELA will offer free CPR certifications. Drop-in training segments will be available from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Residents can also take part in a “drunk goggles” presentation and sign up for Safe Sitter classes.
Food trucks Sloppy Taco, Hi-Licious Street Kitchen and BOOMBOX Frozen Pops and Ice Cream will have food for sale.
