Homeless Shelter Community Resource Fair

  • Introduction: The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Human Services Department is now collecting items for its upcoming Homeless Shelter Community Resource Fair, which will be held July 28-29 at the Allen P. August Multipurpose Annex, 2001 Moeling St. in Lake Charles.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Human Services Department is now collecting items for its upcoming Homeless Shelter Community Resource Fair, which will be held July 28-29 at the Allen P. August Multipurpose Annex, 2001 Moeling St. in Lake Charles.

 
Donation items needed include:

  • deodorant
  • sunblock
  • mosquito repellent
  • feminine hygiene products
  • diapers
  • athlete’s foot powder/spray
  • hand towels
  • backpacks
  • blankets
  • sunglasses
  • socks
  • men’s and women’s underwear (new only)
  • men’s and women’s t-shirts (new or gently-used)
  • men’s and women’s pants, jeans, and shorts (new or gently-used)
  • ·new or gently used shoes (No high heels but flip flops accepted)
  • fruit cups.

Drop off your donations at the Allen P. August Multipurpose Annex 2001 Moeling St., or at the following Southwest Louisiana Credit Union locations: 519 Kirby St. in Lake Charles, 5056 Ryan St. in Lake Charles, 125 Jamestown St. in Lake Charles, 804 PPG Drive in Westlake and 101 N. Cities Service Highway in Sulphur.

Deadline to donate is July 26. Any items donated after that date will be put towards the next Homeless Shelter Community Resource Fair in January 2020.

These items will be distributed at Homeless Shelter and Community Resource Fair. Doors will open at 4 p.m. on July 28.

Transportation services will be offered at Abraham’s Tent, 2424 Fruge St.(beginning at 2 p.m.); Taco Bell parking lot, 3407 Gerstner Memorial Blvd (beginning at 3 p.m.) and at the Lake Charles Civic Center, 901 Lakeshore Drive (beginning at 4 p.m.)

Onsite services at the event will include information on Medicaid/Medicare benefits, legal services, veterans services, housing services, food stamp information and employment resources, as well as basic health screenings and hepatitis shots.

There will also be door prizes and games for participants.
