Section 8 Landlord Workshop and Recruitment Event

The Calcasieu Parish Human Services Housing Department will host a free Landlord Worskshop and Recruitment event from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the Allen P. August Sr. Multipurpose Center, 2000 Moeling St., in Lake Charles.

The session will cover the process, expectations and rewards of becoming a landlord under the Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 Program. Speaker at the event will be James DeBlanc, Parish Housing Inspector.

“Becoming a Section 8 landlord is an investment in the next generation’s success. Landlords support the community by offering affordable housing and receive rent payments on time,” said DeBlanc.

Other topics to be discussed at the session include an overview of Section 8 Housing, Section 8 vouchers from the landlord’s perspective, the eviction process, Fair Housing regulations, the importance of rental inspections, and more.

Section 8 of the Housing Act of 1937 authorizes rental housing assistance payments to private landlords. Section 8 tenants must qualify as a family as defined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and must also meet specific income limits and other qualifications to be considered for the program.

Anyone who owns or manages rental property outside the city limits is encouraged to attend.
