The Zone

  • Date: 02/25/2020 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

“The Zone,” a family-friendly, alcohol-and-tobacco free area targeted for families with children and teens, is back again for Mardi Gras.

Now in its 12th year, The Zone will be open from noon - 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, right on the parade route - in the parking lot between the Charleston Building and the Parish Courthouse on Ryan Street.

The event is free to the public.

The area will have a live DJ, laser tag, lots of kid-friendly games and activities – and the Bayou Games game truck will be on-site. There will also be plenty of hot dogs, popcorn, and soft drinks for kids to enjoy.

“The Zone gets bigger and better each year with the help of our Police Jury, Parish Administration, and Facility Management Department,” said William Sommers,” event organizer. Come on out and bring your kids out to ‘The Zone’ for a great time on Fat Tuesday.”

The Zone, which was started by Project KNOW and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, began in 2008 in an effort to offer a safe, fun Mardi Gras environment for the community’s young people. Since that first year, the event has continued to grow, not only in attendance, but also with community support.  In 2010, the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living joined forces with Project KNOW as event partners.
