After a year off due to COVID-19, “The Zone,” a family-friendly, alcohol-and-tobacco-free area for children, teens and their families, is back again for Mardi Gras.
Now in its 13th year, The Zone will be open from 11:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, on the parade route on Ryan Street – in the parking lot between Pujo and Kirby streets.
The event is free to the public.
The area will have several kid-friendly games and activities, including a live DJ, laser tag, a bounce house, face painting, an activity tent and a train ride. The Kona Ice and Bayou Games trucks will also be on-site. There will be plenty of hot dogs, popcorn, and soft drinks for kids to enjoy.
“The Zone was started in 2008 by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and Project KNOW in an effort to combat underage drinking,” said Anthony Celestine, Office of Juvenile Justice Services Director. “Our goal was to offer the community a safe, yet fun, alcohol-free environment during the Mardi Gras festivities. The event has continued to grow in attendance every year.”
