VIRTUAL: ‘Let’s Talk Drainage’ Session

  • Date: 08/03/2022 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Division of Engineering and Public Works and Calcasieu Parish Regional Watershed Management will host the third virtual session of the four-part webinar series, “Let’s Talk Drainage,” on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

The overall purpose of this series is to describe the various elements that contribute to the current flooding vulnerabilities in Calcasieu Parish, explain various mitigation strategies and associated costs, and develop an overall process to mitigate these vulnerabilities within acceptable limits.

This third session will be held from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3. It will focus on policies that will help watershed management and floodplain protection.

This session will feature the following speakers: Terry Frelot, Assistant Director of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Division of Engineering and Public Works; Jeanne Arceneaux Hornsby, Director of Engineering for C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates; and Gary O’Neal, Grants Manager for C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates.

“The lack of consistency among jurisdictional bodies has exacerbated the parish’s drainage problems,” Frelot said. “ The water does not see political boundaries, and therefore when projects or developments are built upstream of a system without mitigation elements in place, the water moves quicker downstream, often having a negative flooding impact.”
