The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury will host its first-ever Calcasieu Parish Police Jury E-Waste Recycle Drive on Saturday, Nov. 5.
The two Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers – 2915 Post Oak Road in Sulphur and 5500 B Swift Plant Road in Lake Charles -- will accept residential e-waste including TVs, computers, cellphones, and other electronics from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Electronic items accepted include computers, monitors, computer accessories, printers, fax machines, keyboards, photocopiers, laptops, tablets, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, home and office phones, mobile phones, and other related consumer electronics.
Items that are not accepted include smoke detectors, fire alarms, dehumidifiers, large appliances (refrigerators), medical equipment, any units containing sludge or liquids.
Each year, tens of thousands of “e-waste” items such as these are thrown away. These items not only contain recyclable material, but they can be hazardous if disposed of with regular garbage.
The sites are for Calcasieu Parish residents only – residents must have their driver's licenses to verify residency.
