“Movies Under the Stars” will return on July 14 and July 21 with two family-friendly favorites.
The fun starts on Friday, July 14, at Prien Lake Park (3700 West Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles) with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” the 2023 computer-animated adventure film based on Nintendo's iconic Mario video games. It features the backstory for brothers Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt) and Luigi, Italian-American plumbers who are transported to an alternate world and become entangled in a battle between the Mushroom Kingdom, led by Princess Peach, and the Koopas, led by Bowser (Jack Black). (Rated PG).
Then on Friday, July 21, at River Bluff Park (543 Theriot Road, Moss Bluff), make sure not to miss 1998’s “The Parent Trap.” This romantic comedy centers on identical twins Annie and Hallie (both played by Lindsay Lohan), separated at birth and each raised by one of their biological parents (played by Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson), discover each other for the first time at summer camp and make a plan to bring their parents back together. (Rated PG).
Both movies will start at 6:30 p.m. but be sure to get there early to get the best spots. Residents are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. Residents can also bring their own food. Also, free popcorn and cotton candy will be served at each event.
Movies will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced before the event on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s website at calcasieu.gov and on CPPJ’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
