It’s October and time again for four Friday nights of fun at the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s “Movies Under the Stars.”
These four movies were chosen by CPPJ’s Facebook followers in an online poll.
Movies, dates, locations:
- Friday, Oct. 4 – “Frozen 2:” This 2019 animated musical-fantasy takes place three years after the events of the first film and follows sisters Anna and Elsa, and their companions Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf as they travel to an enchanted forest to find the origin of Elsa's magical powers. Elsa saves the day by harnessing powers to save herself and those around her. (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at Prien Lake Park, 3700 West Prien Lake Road.
- Friday, Oct. 11 – “Shrek Forever After:” This 2010 American animated fantasy-comedy shows us a long-married and settled-down Shrek who begins to long for the “good old days” where he felt like a real and scary ogre. Duped into signing a contract with Rumpelstiltskin, Shrek is transported to an alternate version of Far, Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin rules and he and Fiona have never met. Shrek must find a way out of the contract to restore his world and reclaim his true love (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at Mallard Junction Park, 599 August St., Lake Charles.
- Friday, Oct. 18 – “IF” This live-action/animated drama follows 12-year-old Bea, a young girl going through a tough time. Then, she discovers she has a kind of superpower — she can see everyone's IFs, or imaginary friends. As a result, she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten imaginary friends with their kids (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at Bulber Auditorium, 4205 McNeese St., Lake Charles.
- Friday, Oct. 25 – “The Princess and the Frog.” Hardworking Tiana shares a dream with her late father to open a restaurant in New Orleans. Her dream takes a slight detour when she meets Prince Naveen, who has been turned into a frog by the evil Dr. Facilier. Unfortunately, when she attempts to reverse the spell with a kiss, she is also turned into a frog. They embark on a journey to turn themselves back human where they meet some friends along the way (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at River Bluff Park, 543 Theriot Road, Moss Bluff.
Movies will start at 6:30 p.m. but be sure to get there early to get the best spots. Residents are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. Free popcorn and cotton candy will be served at each event. Residents can also bring their own food.
The movies will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced before the event on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s website at calcasieu.gov and on CPPJ’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Visit calcasieu.gov/MUTS for more information.
