E-Recycle Drive

  • Date: 10/26/2024 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Calcasieu Parish residents can dispose of old, unwanted electronics conveniently and properly at the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s E-Waste Recycle Day on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Residential e-waste including, TVs, computers, cellphones, and other electronics, will be accepted from 8 a.m.- noon that day at the parish’s two Solid Waste Convenience Centers – 2915 Post Oak Road in Sulphur and 5500-B Swift Plant Road in Lake Charles.

Accepted electronic items include:

  • Desktop computers, monitors, LCDs, LEDs, servers, hard drives, mouse devices, computer accessories, gaming consoles, audio-visual equipment, network equipment, projectors, routers, hubs, printers, fax machines, keyboards and photocopiers
  • TVs, VCRs, DVD players, CD players, stereo equipment
  • Home, office and mobile phones
  • Laptops, tablets and PDAs
  • Laptop batteries, UPS batteries and lithium batteries
  • Cables, wires, circuit boards, memory chips and plugs/connectors
  • Other related consumer electronics.

Items that are not accepted include smoke detectors, fire alarms, dehumidifiers, large appliances (refrigerators), medical equipment and items containing sludge or liquids.

“Many people are not aware that their e-waste requires proper disposal,” said Wyvette Pryor-Cousin, CPPJ’s Litter Manager. “This drive allows us to show residents how their e-waste should be disposed of, which ultimately has a positive effect on our community and the environment.”

Each year, tens of thousands of “e-waste” items such as these are thrown away. These items not only contain recyclable material, but they can be hazardous if disposed of with regular garbage.

These sites are for Calcasieu Parish residents only. Residents must stop at the attendant's booth and have their driver's licenses scanned, or their utility bill reviewed, to verify residency.
