Solid Waste Convenience Centers 

The parish's two Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers are facilities at which Calcasieu Parish residents can bring large waste items that are too big for residential trash bins and dispose of them properly.

Residents can also bring sorted recyclable items to the facilities.

This service is at no additional cost and available to all Calcasieu Parish residents with valid driver's licenses.

 

 

 

 

 

Center locations and hours of operation:

Regular hours are now 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. Thursday - Monday. They are CLOSED on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week.

The centers are closed on most parish holidays. Here are the Solid Waste Convenience Centers' holiday closures for 2024:

  • Sunday, Jan. 1 New Year's Day
  • Monday, Jan. 15: Martin Luther King, Jr Day
  • Tuesday, Feb. 13: Mardi Gras Day (Both centers are closed on Tuesdays)
  • Thursday, July 4: Fourth of July
  • Monday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day
  • Thursday, Nov. 28: Thanksgiving
  • Sunday, Dec. 24: Christmas Eve
  • Sunday, Dec. 31: New Year's Eve

For solid waste and recycling

Each Residential Solid Waste Convenience Center has an attendant on site during operating hours and there is additional security after hours. When using the site, residents must stop by the attendant's booth and have their driver's licenses scanned to verify they are residents of Calcasieu.

The collection sites are to be used for residential solid waste only.

General Guidelines/Rules:

  • Commercial and industrial waste are prohibited
  • No scavenging allowed
  • Tires - vehicular and equipment - limit five per day per person. Rims must be removed
  • All acceptable waste must fit in waste containers
  • All motors, tanks and cans must be drained of all fluids
  • No automotive or industrial oils, grease or anti-freeze accepted
  • Paint cans must be open and any paint contained must be minimal and dry
  • Doors on white goods must be removed for safety
  • Animal carcasses or byproducts of recreational activities must be reduced as much as possible, double-bagged and tied
  • Recyclables must be sorted into appropriate containers

 

Items that are not accepted at the centers:

  • Asbestos siding
  • Medical waste
  • Automotive oils, grease or antifreeze
  • Boats (unless cut up to fit in box; also must not be wood)

Recycling

We encourage all residents to bring your recycling to us! Below are the acceptable and non-acceptable items for recycling only (keep in mind that the non-acceptable items listed below are accepted at our solid waste centers, but not as recyclable items):

Acceptable for Recycling

  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Bicycles
  • Metal fence posts
  • Bed frames
  • Metal roofing
  • Miscellaneous metal pieces
  • Plastic bottles and jugs
  • Newspapers and junk mail
  • Brown paper bags
  • Catalogs, magazines and phone books
  • Cardboard/Chipboard (cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc.)
  • Computer/copier paper
  • Envelopes
  • Batteries: Deep Cycle/automotive type.

Not Acceptable for Recycling

  • Aluminum foil                                                                                        plastic bag recycle bin found at store                        
  • Small batteries
  • Glass, ceramics, porcelain
  • Light bulbs
  • Painted or treated wood
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic grocery bags (Please return to your supermarket)
  • Plastic wrap
  • Plastic grocery bags (please return these to your grocery store)
