Citizens should always be aware of the risks associated with mosquito bites and be vigilant at keeping mosquitoes at bay by removing any standing water around homes and wearing mosquito repellent when mosquitoes are active.

The Centers for Disease Control has an informative web page for West Nile information: http://www.cdc.gov/westnile/index.html

Zika Virus Update

Zika Virus has not been found in mosquitoes in Louisiana at this time. There have been no local transmission of Zika Virus in the continental U.S. since 2017.

Although no cases have been documented in the U.S. lately, it is still a good idea to check the CDC's website for travel recommendations when planning to travel abroad.
