The primary mission for the Department is to mobilize a trained medical support unit to augment emergency operations and responses during the man-made or natural disasters and address community needs on a day-to-day basis.

To achieve this mission, the Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps (CMRC) utilizes professionals and trained volunteers who strategically coordinate to address threats of terrorism, emerging diseases, emergency preparedness, and natural disasters.

VOLUNTEERING

MRC volunteers can choose to support communities in need nationwide. When Louisiana was battered by hurricanes in 2005, MRC volunteers helped communities by volunteering at local hospitals, assisting their neighbors at local shelters, and provided first aid to those injured by the storms. During this two-month period, more than 30 MRC units from Louisiana and across the United States worked as part of the relief efforts.
