What do Waterworks Districts do?

Waterworks Districts are responsible for providing potable water to the residents in their district boundaries and service areas. Potable water, also known as drinking water, comes from surface and ground sources and is treated to levels that meet state and federal standards for consumption. Calcasieu Parish Wastewater Department manages three different water districts in our Parish which are:

Waterworks District Two of Ward Four (Mossville)
Waterworks District Five of Wards Three and Eight (Mallard Junction - East and Southeast of Lake Charles)
Waterworks District Twelve of Wards Three (Big Lake - South Lake Charles Area)

2023 Water District Grades

Act 98 of the 2021 Louisiana Legislature's regular session authorized the Louisiana Department of Health Safe Drinking Water Program to develop a grade for community water system accountability. LDH determines letter grades based on seven set standards evaluating the infrastructure, accountability, and over all health risk of drinking water to consumers.
