How to Manage Stormwater During Construction Activites
** Prior to performing any land-disturbing activities, Stormwater Erosion/Sediment Control Permits are required. Failure to comply with permit requirements may result in civil penalties. **

CONSTRUCTION SITES
Erosion control is very important especially at construction sites. When erosion control devices or Best Management Practices (BMP’s) aren’t installed or maintained it can cause excessive amounts of sediment and debris to be picked up by stormwater and carried into ditches and storm drains.
BMP’s are designed to reduce the stormwater volume, peak flow and non point source pollution. They work by filtering the runoff, retaining the runoff and allowing it to soak into the ground or diverting the runoff away from drains and ditches.
BMP's Include:
- Construction & Solid Waste Management
- Dust Control
- Sediment Filter Logs
- Inlet Controls
- Soil Stockpiling & Topsoil Preservation
- Vegetation Stabilization Sod
- Stabilized Exit Pad
- Silt Fence Sediment Barrier
- Concrete/Stucco Washout Controls
- Materials Storage & Handling
- Stabilization Mulching
- Protected Areas Reserved
- Sanitary Waste Management (Portalets)
- Vegetative Stabilization Seeding
