- No. You can only submit one employment application per job posting. No changes or additional information will be accepted once your employment application has been submitted. Please be careful to collect all relevant employment data prior to beginning the application process. Remember to review all data prior to saving your application and submitting it.
- Changes to your application can be made at any time. However, your application should be final at the time of submission. Only one application is accepted for each opening. Updating your account will not impact, modify, or change any previously submitted applications.

Can I modify my employment application for a specific job posting at any time prior to the closing date?

- Click on “the forgot password/username” and answer the user selected question (Grandmothers Maiden Name etc). Passwords are not monitored, so they cannot be retrieved by staff.
- No, but because the system allows users to select multiple devices, (phone, text, email, pager), by acknowledging receipt of the message, the system will know to stop sending consecutive messages to the other registered devices.
- If you are unable to retrieve your password, you will have to create a new user profile, using a new user name. The system already recognizes your user name and because you cannot remember your password/question, you are not able to access the system. Therefore, a new user name must be selected.
- Yes. Each alert network sends messages to the registered user. The alerting systems are not linked.
- The system is only as good as the information you provide. If your contact information changes, you can always visit your profile and update your information.
- If you don't create a username and password, you will receive notifications only by the methods that are on file for your Organization.
- Yes, it is a free service.
- This system will be used to notify you about imminent threats to health and safety as well as informational notifications that affect your locations or work environments. Administrators will send notifications regarding severe weather, flooding, gas leaks, police activity and more.
- No. The information that you provide will be used only by the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness for notification purposes. We will not give or sell your contact or location information to any vendor or other organization.
- This service allows you to opt-in to receive notifications via phone calls, text messaging, e-mail and more based on locations you care about. You can choose to receive notifications about events that may affect your home, workplace, family's schools and more.
- You may choose from a menu of different alerts. When you sign up, you will see a blue plus circle. To see all the alert options/preferences, expand the blue plus circle. You may then select one or more of the options by checking the appropriate box. Note: If you check the box, you will be opting in to ALL the alerts.
- Automated Severe Weather Alerts come directly from the National Weather Service via the Everbridge platform and enables you to select the types of weather alerts you wish to receive. It is location based enabling weather alerts to be specific, geographically based, and map driven.

Please note that Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has the ability to override your chosen quiet times. 1.) To comply with the mandatory Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit received by the Police Jury in 2003. The plan required the Police Jury to identify and address sources of pollution affecting the Calcasieu River Basin.
2.) To address health and safety needs of our citizens.
The inspectors will be looking at three main components:
Step 1) Electrical Hook up – testing to making sure that power is to the outlet, making sure that the GFCI outlet has not been tripped, making sure that the blower motor is plugged in and making sure that ants have not invaded the outlet.
Step 2) Blower motor – making sure that the blower motor is running, making sure that ants have not invaded the blower motor and making sure that all air piping is attached, secured and providing air into the tank.
Step 3) Storage tank pump out – making sure that excess sludge and solids have not built up in the tank. The inspector will measure the sludge depth with a Sludge Judge to determine if a system needs to be pumped out.

- Yes. Call the Division of Planning and Development Sewer Inspection Hotline at (337) 721-3847. Keep in mind, if the homeowner wishes to be at the home during the inspection, times may have to be arranged within three hour increments (9-12 AM –1-4 PM).
Can a homeowner submit documentation to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury indicating that their system is working?
Yes. According to state law either a certified licensed wastewater service provider or a homeowner that has obtained a Homeowners Maintenance License through DHH is qualified.Code books can be purchased from the International Code Council at www.iccsafe.org

Can I schedule an appointment with the Plans Examiner prior to submitting building plans for review?
Yes, in fact we encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our plans examiners prior to submittal. By doing so, you will aid our office in getting your review done in a timely manner.- The purpose of plan review is to examine the proposed project prior to construction. This will allow the code department to check for any apparent code violations before the owner or contractor begins work on the project.
- A building code is a set of laws and ordinances that set the minimum safety standards and embraces all aspects of building construction--fire and structural items as well as plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Yes, the location of the panel is required. This is to verify that the required working clearance is satisfied and also that the panel is situated in an approved location.
Windows that have a sill height greater than 44 inches are required to have a minimum clear net opening of 5.7 square feet, with the exception of grade floor openings which shall have a minimum clear net opening of 5.0 square feet.
NOTE: This requirement only applies to basements and sleeping rooms.
- YES, you must provide an engineered stamped shop drawing of these trusses at time of submittal for permitting.
- The building plan review process may take up to two (2) weeks once all construction documents are submitted and/or necessary approvals are made.
- One complete set of drawings are required for plan review. It is preferred that drawings be submitted in an electronic form.

My neighbor's chickens are destroying my garden. Is there anything that can be done outside the city?
Unfortunately, there are no coop laws on chickens or other fowl. Animal Services can only enforce ordinances that are passed by the Police Jury. Several ordinances were proposed by Animal Services in 1997. The matter was deferred to the Advisory Committee, and a public meeting was held in January 1998. Five speakers showed up to speak, and all were opposed to having to keep their chickens cooped. The committee recognized there was no intention by Animal Services to require putting all chickens in coops. However, since there is no specific law on chickens in the Parish like in the municipalities, nothing can be done to assist citizens experiencing these types of problems. It basically becomes a civil matter.- There are no leash laws on cats. The first thing we advise complainants to do is to speak to the owner of the cat. Usually the cat owner is unaware their pet is even causing a problem. If that doesn't work you can purchase a humane box trap to trap the nuisance animals. Once an animal is trapped, you must call the shelter immediately to have the animal removed. You can also bring the animal in the trap to the shelter and we can remove it for you. Trapping cats is not a guaranteed solution to the neighbor's cat - the owners can come and redeem their cat at the shelter.
- Think hard about the commitment you are about to make.
Your pet is going to require time and energy in feeding, walking, and grooming. Cats as well as dogs like attention from "their" owners.
Your pet is going to cost money - food, litter, licenses, toys, training, boarding when you're away, bedding, shelter, maybe an outdoor enclosure, kenneling or fencing.
Like any other member of the family, a pet will occasionally get sick or injured and need medical care.
We aren't trying to scare you off! We just want to be sure that you have thought about the commitment you are about to make. Adoption can mean a 10,15, or 20 year commitment! Losing a pet can be very stressful on a family. If you have lost a beloved pet, please follow these important steps:
1. Post alerts/flyers in neighborhoods, vet clinics and on social media:- Describe the pet: BE SPECIFIC - If it has a spot on its right front paw, MENTION IT
- List the pet's name: Does your pet answer to his/her name? Does he/she answer to a certain call?
- Cover the "3 W's:" Give the What, Where and When you think the pet went missing.
- Include a photo, if possible.
2. Email: Email Calcasieu Parish Animal Services Department here to notify the staff that your pet is missing. List all of the information that is on your flyer, or simply attach your flyer to the email.
3. View lost pets here to see if Calcasieu Animal Services has already located your pet. You can also report your animal missing on this webpage!
4. Follow up with Animal Services to do a walk through (PLEASE make an appointment).
5. If your pet is microchipped, call the microchip company to report them as lost. Verify with them that all of your contact information is current and add an alternate contact if available.
Finding a missing pet requires plenty of time and energy. But don't give up; you would be surprised how many pets are reunited with their owners!
- When a juvenile is detained, a hearing before a judge is required by law to determine if continued protective custody is needed pending arraignment. This hearing is held within 72 hours of incarceration.
- Parish and City Ordinances have laws to protect you and your property. If you know who owns the cat, you can fill out a witness statement with the exact date you saw the animal damage your property. We must have a statement from you and one other neighbor that have seen the animal damage property. Once those are received, an officer can issue citations. Please understand this is not going to be an overnight solution, and if the owner of the animal decides to contest the citation, you and the second witness will be required to go to court to testify.
If there is no known owner of the cat, you can purchase a have Humane Box Trap and trap it. Each time a cat is caught in the trap, call us and we will remove it or you can bring the trapped cat into our facility.
These same steps can be taken for:
Neighbors letting dogs run loose, digging or destroying property
Barking dogs - The initial step in formal prosecution where the juvenile is brought before the court to hear the charges and to enter a plea.
- Yes, upon admission each juvenile is allowed to contact his parents/guardians or attorney. While in the center juveniles are allowed to place calls to family, attorney's and Probation Officers as requested.
You can keep the pet population down by spaying or neutering your pet. Many dogs and cats are brought to the animal shelter every day.
As a rule, the Animal Services staff spays and neuters every dog and cat in the shelter before they are released to a future owner.
Do your part! Spay or neuter your pet today.
- A hearing held to determine the most appropriate form of custody or treatment for a juvenile who has been found to be a juvenile delinquent or a status offender.
- An initial interview to discuss with the family pending charges or issues.
- A program that refers juveniles to community programs prior to court hearings. On successful completion charges maybe dismissed.
By keeping dogs on a leash and staying on designated trails, contact with coyotes can generally be avoided. You should always supervise your dog closely in areas where coyotes are present, even your backyard. Coyotes are not afraid of your dog, but they are afraid of you. If a coyote approaches your dog, scare it away by flaring your arms, yelling or throwing something at it.
If you may have coyotes on your property or in your neighborhood, follow these tips:
- Do not feed coyotes. Problems occur when people begin feeding coyotes, either deliberately or inadvertently.
- Garbage must be stored in secure containers. Do not put meat scraps in compost heaps. Also do not put the trash out at NIGHT, especially in the spring. Adults will be more territorial since they have their young.
- Remove outside pet food containers. Coyotes will prey upon small mammals attracted to pet food.
- If you have fruit trees, pick up the fallen fruit as they eat this too.
- If you have bird feeders, place them up high as they have seeds which attracts coyotes and rodents. As mentioned before coyotes are very fond of small mammals and will be attracted by them as well.
- Keep pets indoors or keep a watchful eye on them. Walk dogs on a leash, especially at night.
- Do not leave small children outside unattended.
- Encourage your neighbors to follow the same advice.

- Because strong family and community ties increase the likelihood that a juvenile will succeed after release, visits for detained juveniles are encouraged. It is important that juveniles receive visits from parents, clergy and other approved visitors on a regular basis while in Detention.
Being able to communicate with parents serves to promote feelings of self-worth and often alleviates stress related to being detained. - Once FEMA approves your property , the Parish/City will contact you regarding the next steps for proceeding with your project.
Calcasieu Parish Animal Services and Adoption Center has a low cost voucher program to assist in having your pet spayed or neutered. If you are a resident of Calcasieu Parish, and receive any type of public assistance, are a college student, or meet other low income requirements , you may qualify for a voucher. Simply bring proof of assistance and your government-issued photo ID to the shelter during regular business hours and fill out a brief application. Upon approval, the staff will then issue a voucher and schedule an appointment with a participating clinic of your choice. The price will vary depending on which clinic you choose.
At a minimum, all pets must be current on their rabies vaccination and Calcasieu Parish license. Some participating clinics may require additional vaccinations. If your pet is not current, you will be required to get your pet up-to-date. Most veterinarians will allow residents to pay for and get their petz updated while they're at the clinic for surgery. If your pet is already current, please bring that information with you when you fill out the application so the staff can include it on the voucher.

A tether is a cord that anchors something movable to a stationary point. There are a number of applications for tethers, but the primary use is limiting the movement of animals.

After consideration and possible reduction due to other benefits that you may have already received for damages, you will be funded as follows:
Acquisition--you will receive a check for 75% of the total project cost
Elevation--This is a reimbursable grant and the Parish will pay the homeowner and contractor per invoice
- This is a grant with a required 25% match that must be paid by the homeowner
Acquisition--your 25% will be automatically deducted from the check that you receive from the sale of your home
Elevation--After required FEMA and Parish approval, the Parish/City will explain the amount of your 25% match, which must be paid before the project proceeds.
Acquisition--you must pay to have an appraisal for your home (this can be part of your 25% match IF your home becomes part of a FEMA/Parish/City approved project).
Elevation--you must pay to have an elevation survey (this can be part of your 25% match IF your home becomes part of a FEMA/Parish/City approved project).
- After FEMA approves your property, the Parish/City will close out your file and any monies spent by you will not be reimbursed
- No. The IRS has exempted mitigation funding from taxation.
- No. Homeowners are not required to have flood insurance to participate, however homeowners should be able to provide documentation regarding previous damages. For elevation projects, flood insurance is required to be maintained after application approval.
- Once you submit the elevation certificate, the Parish/City will make the determination based on the flood maps
What is the distance requirement from churches, schools, libraries and playgrounds for those business establishments wishing to sell alcoholic beverages?
Three Hundred Feet (300 ft). The distance shall be measured in a straight line from the nearest point of the property line of the church, synagogue, library, school or playground to the nearest point of the premises the business is to be conducted; however, if there are sidewalks, the measurement of this distance shall be made as a person walks using the middle of the sidewalk from the nearest point of the property line to the nearest point of the premises.
- Yes. It is unlawful for any person to carry or drink from an open container on any public street, sidewalk or park, playground or other unenclosed public place within the Parish.

- Twenty-one (21). It is unlawful to sell or serve alcoholic beverages to any person under the age of 21.
If the sale of alcoholic beverages does not constitute the main business and alcoholic beverages are not sold for consumption on the premises, an employee under the age of eighteen (18) years of age may be permitted to sell packaged alcoholic beverages to collect the price and taxes and issue receipts, or may be permitted to bag packaged beverages, or both, where immediate supervision is provided.

- A building permit is good for 180 days (approx. 6 months). However, as long as the work is progressing and has not stopped for six months, the permit is active until the project is completed.
As of 2007, Calcasieu Parish has 94% of its roads paved in asphalt, with the 6% of roads being gravel. In terms of actual miles, this percentage comes out to about 1,150 miles!
Calcasieu Parish has made road paving projects a top priority over the past 20 years. In 1990, only 48% of our roads were paved. Presently, Calcasieu Parish has the largest percentage of paved roads when compared to the other parishes in Louisiana.
When Prien Lake Park was designed, about 11,000 trees and plants were in the plans. However, some of the landscaping was destroyed by the effects of Hurricane Ike.

About 4.2 trillion cigarette butts are thrown on the ground by people each year worldwide.
What about our state of Louisiana? Based off of cigarette tax records, it is estimated that our state tosses about 743 million butts on the ground. If you were to lay each of these butts end to end, in terms of distance, that comes out to about 12,000 miles!
Do you know how long 12,000 miles really is? It's about halfway around the Equator of the Earth!
We believe littering is a habit and reaching area youth is a great way to set up good habits for life. Our seven foot man made out of litter "Trashsquatch" and his trusty sidekick "Fetch" the Litter Retriever accompany our litter enforcement officer when he speaks to local 5th graders. Our officer talks to the kids about the impacts of litter on the local ecology, health and economy and encourages them to keep litter where it belongs, in the trash can!
Trashsquatch and Fetch are the rock stars of the litter program and also make appearances at Summer Feeding program locations and can be spotted at some Movies Under the Stars events.

- • It affects our parents in Louisiana. They spend more than $14 million in taxes to pay for cleaning up areas with litter.
• People who visit our state don't see how beautiful we really are due to litter along our roadways. This is the same for people who want to move here as well. When you are in a dirty place, do you want to hang around? No. Our visitors don't want to hang around either.
• It's dangerous to our health! Litter attracts rodents like rats, that may carry diseases, to your home.
• It affects our safety. Criminals love areas riddled with litter. These areas provide them a place to hide. - People think its okay to litter:
• When they feel no sense of ownership for the property.
• When they know someone else will clean up after them.
• Where litter has already accumulated. Litter is any kind of trash that isn't thrown away properly. Litter not only is a
problem, it is a crime. The largest single product group littered in Louisiana,
according to a survey, are cigarette butts and take-out food packaging, including
cups, napkins, plates, bags, etc. Candy wrappers and beverage containers are also a big problem.Another big problem in our community are the places you see outside of communities that look like a big pile of trash. These areas are called "illegal dump sites." Some people who don't care about the cleanliness of our area choose to dump their trash on other people's land, without permission.
Sometimes a group of people in a parish want to form a community within a parish. This is known as a "City." Depending on how many people live in this community, a city can also be called a "town" or "village." These communities are known in government as "municipalities." Each municipality has their own form of government, with a mayor and city council elected to make all the decisions for the community. Calcasieu Parish currently has six different municipalities. They are: Lake Charles, Sulphur, DeQuincy, Westlake, Iowa and Vinton.
The Police Jury is put in place to govern all areas that are not located inside of municipalities. These areas are known as "unincorporated areas." There are currently 15 police jurors that represent 15 different areas of our parish. All but two jurors represent some portion or all of an unincorporated area.
A long time ago, this land that we live in was known to the rest of the country as "No Man's Land." It was called this because no form of law or government claimed the land. With no one to keep law and order, this region was home to many outlaws, criminals, and pirates, like the famous Jean Lafitte.
We were "No Man's Land," until the year 1819, when the United States Government took control of the area. At this time, there weren't many people living in Southwest Louisiana. "No Man's Land" became a part of St. Landry Parish, and would remain this way for the next 21 years!
One day in late August of 1840, a group of six men from various parts of our region decided to form their own parish, known as Calcasieu Parish.
Originally, our Parish was very large! Our entire parish consisted of land that would become four other parishes at some point in time. They are: Allen, Beauregard, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis Parishes. This large mass of land was known in the past as "Imperial Calcasieu." It wasn't until 1912, that Calcasieu Parish was reduced to its current size today.

Have you ever heard of a judge and jury? They are a part of our legal system and help bring justice to a community. This played a big part in forming Police Juries long ago.
In 1807, the Legislative Council agreed to designate 19 districts of Orleans Territory-the future State of Louisiana-and refer to them as parishes. But how would each parish be governed in fairness to the people who lived there?
The Legislative Council also created a form of government for each parish consisting of: one parish judge and a twelve-member jury. The parish judge was the chief governing official. Written under law, this body of individuals were given the responsibility of making decisions for any issues that could affect or impact their parish.
A few years later, this governing body was officially named a "police jury."
1839 brought one major change that helped define the Police Jury form of government as we know it today. The role of a parish judge was taken away, leaving only members of the jury to govern each parish.
Since that time, Police Juries have used the same structure of government, with each police juror being elected by registered voters of the parish every four years.- C-GOV will provide copies of any of our self-produced programs for a fee of $25. - To be registered as a Calcasieu Parish Police Jury vendor, please submit a vendor registration. When goods or services are purchased a W-9 form is required.
- A W-9 form is required when payments are made to individuals and unincorporated companies that have provided goods or services. This provides us information for submitting our 1099s at year-end.
- There are no set schedules as to when an area is to be sprayed. Daily inspection data on mosquito population densities gathered from mosquito traps, landing rates and service requests, along with disease surveillance information, help us to set daily spray schedules. These are normally established around 2pm each day and will be posted on the web page. If you are experiencing a mosquito problem you are welcome to call the office and submit a service request.
Every mosquito goes through four changes in its life: egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
1. Mosquito eggs are laid on the surface of water, in moist soil, or on the sides of objects that tend to flood. Each female mosquito will produce between 150-250 eggs each time she lays her eggs. The eggs usually hatch 1-3 days after they are laid.
2. Each egg then moves to a larvae form. At this stage the larvae are also known as wrigglers, because of the way they swim around the water.
3. After the larvae stage, the pupa is formed. This is the moment where the mosquito begins to take its familiar shape. This stage can take up to several days, depending on temperature and species.
4. The adult mosquito is now full grown, and is capable of flight. It feeds mostly on animal blood and nectar. Some mosquitoes can fly as fast as 25 mph. A male mosquito's main job in his life is to reproduce, while only the females bite because they need blood for nourishment and development of her eggs.

Mosquitoes aren't just a pesky bug that makes us itch. They can carry diseases that can be transferred to humans through their bite. Some of these are pretty dangerous like malaria, encephalitis, West Nile virus, and Yellow Fever.
It only takes four days for a mosquito to develop from an egg to a full-fledged insect!
The most important thing you can do to help control the spread of mosquitoes is to get rid of any standing water around your home or school. You can find standing water in empty buckets, flowerpots,trash lids, old tires- anything deep enough to collect a puddle.
- There are several reasons, all of them somewhat intertwined. First of all sprays utilized today are contact products with little to no residual effect to kill mosquitoes past the time period that they drift through the area. So only those mosquitoes active at the time of spraying will be affected. The next factor is that mosquitoes are capable of moving long distances in a short period of time. Some species can move 20 or more miles in a night. New broods of mosquitoes can move into your neighborhood in a very short time period. Another factor is that here in Louisiana we have a climate and an abundance of habitat conducive to year-round mosquito production. Populations can build back quickly under the proper conditions.
- Spray trucks will drive down driveways when the home is 300’ or more off the road. The driveway must be in good condition, hard surfaced and provide an adequate space for the driver to turn around. When a resident requests their driveway be sprayed, someone from the department will check to make sure all these requirements are met. If approved it is placed on the spray map. If at any time the driveway fails to continue meeting the requirements, it is removed from the map.
- Once a driver reaches his/her spray zone, the spray motor on the back of the truck stays running the entire time he is traveling. So some of the time the driver could just be moving from one street to the other and not actually spraying. However, when the driver is spraying the top lights should be engaged and a mist seen coming from the sprayer.
Now once spraying begins, drivers can effectively spray between 7-18mph. This range is made possible by trucks being equipped with computerized variable flow metering systems. These systems increase or decrease flow rates based on the speed of travel assuring that the proper amount of spray is being dispensed. Should the driver exceed 18mph, an alarm buzzer sounds in the cab and the metering system stops. These new systems have greatly increased the efficiency of the operation, assuring proper application, as well as saving time and money. Did you know only female mosquitoes bite?
In order for any mosquito to survive, they need to eat the sugar found in plant nectar. But there is a reason females like blood.
Female mosquitoes use a long, thin needle located at the mouth to fill their abdomens with blood. There are certain proteins in the blood that are necessary to produce eggs.Females require an abdomen full of blood for every nest they lay. The proteins from this blood can help the mosquito to produce about 250 eggs!
- Mosquito control has over 20 part-time drivers. Drivers work from a detailed map with various instructions related to work within each designated zones. Operations begin at dusk on into the night until finished. Drivers are given leeway to make decisions as to the drive ability of any road while on their runs. This is for their safety, as well as the safety of the general public. Due to the fact that these operations are being accomplished at night, in unfamiliar areas and many of these areas poorly lit, human errors will occur. Considering these factors, drivers due an outstanding job of properly covering spray areas.
Here are the most common reasons streets or drives are missed:
Poorly lit area, especially true as it relates to rural roads and driveways
Too Many people outside in the area
Blocked turnaround making safe passage difficult
Driver unfamiliarity with an area
Too many cars parked along a driveway
Suspension of spraying driveways due to prolonged rain events - Mosquito control feels that bats and purple martins should be encouraged and protected, but just do not think they are the answer to mosquito problems. Both will eat mosquitoes but not to the extent advertised. Studies have shown that less than 3% of their diet consists of mosquitoes. Both are opportunistic feeders meaning they will feed on whatever is most abundant and easiest to catch. Therefore, if larger insects are available they are more likely to feed on them first before chasing the much smaller mosquitoes.
Excerpt from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Human Resources Manual:
2.3 ANTI-HARASSMENT & SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY
A. The Parish is committed to providing a work environment that promotes equal employment opportunities and prohibits unlawful discriminatory practices, including harassment.B. It is the policy of the Parish to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment with respect to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, age, disability or any other protected status. All such harassment is not only unlawful but is specifically prohibited by the Parish.
C. Sexual harassment on the job violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Sexual Harassment means “any unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors or any conduct of a sexual nature.”
Training Requirement: The Parish requires, pursuant to Louisiana Revised Statutes 42:343, all employees, elected officials, and appointed officials to receive one (1) hour of sexual harassment training annually.
The Human Resources Department will provide several opportunities to fulfill this requirement and will arrange adequate notice of sexual harassment training opportunities including online options.D. Types of Harassing Conduct
1. Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when:
a. Submission to such conduct is explicitly or implicitly made a term or condition of an individual’s employment; or
b. Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for employment decisions affecting such individual; or
c. Such conduct has the purpose or effect of interfering unreasonably with an individual’s performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment.
2. Sexual harassment may include a range of subtle and not-so-subtle behaviors and may involve individuals of the same or different gender. Depending on the circumstances, these behaviors may include but is not limited to:a. Sexual flirtations, advances, or propositions;
b. Verbal abuse of a sexual nature, including threats, off-color jokes, or crude and offensive language;
c. Graphic or suggestive comments about an individual’s appearance or dress;
d. Leering or whistling;
e. The display of sexually suggestive objects or pictures;
f. Any offensive or unwanted physical conduct such as indecent gestures, touching, patting or pinching;
g. Physical restraint or assault;
h. Sending sexually suggestive notes or messages;
i. Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or visual conduct of a sexual nature.3. Harassment on the basis of any other protected characteristic is also strictly prohibited. Police Jury policy prohibits harassment with respect to race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, disability, and any other protected status. Harassing conduct includes slurs or negative stereotyping; threatening, intimidating or hostile acts; denigrating jokes; and written or graphic material that denigrates or shows hostility or aversion toward an individual or group that is posted or circulated in the workplace.
4. Harassing conduct communicated or transmitted electronically through e-mail, phone messages, tweets, blogs, social networking sites, or other means is prohibited.
D. Individuals Covered
This anti-harassment policy applies to all employees of the Parish, as well as Parish vendors, contractors, and customers.E. Notification Procedure
1. Any employee who feels that he or she has been subjected to harassing conduct or believes he or she has witnessed such conduct has a responsibility to report the situation as soon as possible to their supervisor, the Human Resources Director, or any member of management. 2. When possible, the Police Jury encourages employees to promptly advise the offender that his or her behavior is unwelcome and request that the conduct discontinue. 3. All complaints will be taken seriously and investigated. All employees and witnesses are expected to cooperate with the investigation. Information provided by employees will be treated as confidential. The information may be disclosed to those who have a need for the information or when required in the course of the investigation, or by law. False information provided by an employee may subject that employee to discipline, up to and including termination. 4. Harassment by any employee is grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including termination. 5. Retaliation against an individual for reporting harassment or discrimination or for participating in an investigation of a claim is a serious violation of this policy and will be subject to disciplinary action. Acts interpreted as retaliation should be reported immediately according to the notification procedure and will be promptly investigated and addressed.
